Publix Cards
Is my Publix Partners card still valid?
Stores will continue to scan Publix
Partners cards through September 30, 2018, to allow our customers adequate time
to transition. Effective October 1, 2018, Publix Partners cards will no longer
scan or be accepted.
To support your school, sign
up for Publix Partners through your Publix.com account (if
you don't already have one) and select your desired school. Then, enter your
phone number at checkout each time you make an eligible purchase.
Do I need to reenroll every school
year?
Yes. Enrollment in Publix Partners
expires each July and you still need to sign up annually. Log into your account
each July to select a school in your account settings.

Names, names, names!
We have been working on spelling our names, writing our names, sorting the letters in our names, and learning our friends’ names. We begin the year by using all capital letters and work on forming those letters correctly. We also encourage the children to start their letters at the top and move down. For example, an E is a big line down, jump back to the top, a little line across the top, the middle, and the bottom. O starts at the top, comes around like a C and then finishes back at the top. I will be sending home more information on how you can help your child correctly form the letters in his name next week.

8 Ways to Raise a Reader
I came across this article today and thought it had some excellent points for parents of preschool children. After snack each day, students are allowed to select books to "read" quietly until everyone is finished and it is time to move on to the next activity. Many children find this difficult. At school we model the proper way to hold a book and turn the pages. We also model how to look carefully at the pictures, ask ourselves questions, and look for letters we may know.
At home I would encourage you to set aside 5 minutes each day and have your child "read" books quietly. This will help to improve focus, observation skills, and independence.
Also, find time to read to your child each day. Ask questions, make observations, and discuss the story afterward. All of these will improve comprehension and help to create a life long learner and reader.
Thankful to be able to partner with you to educate and equip your children to change the world for God's glory!

information, expectations, and this is a great time to get your questions
answered.

for having your children to school on time. Remember, you’re always welcome to
park in the upper soccer parking lot and walk to the carpool area to pick up
your child, but we encourage you to use the easy drop-off and pick-up in the
elementary and kindergarten carpool areas. We’re off to a great start!
Late Start Wednesdays – (3K-12th) – School day begins at
8:50 am every Wednesday unless noted on the red FPD calendar. Please use
carpool areas to drop off your children on these days. If students arrive
early, they will go to designated classrooms. Students should bring a book in their book-bag to read each
Wednesday. Electronics are not allowed during this time, except for
book readers.
What’s going on in the library? It’s
almost BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB time! A blue flyer will be coming home next
week that explains how you may participate. Mrs. Darnell has more than
300 new books to choose from and hopes you will stop by the Media Center during
Open House on August 27th. What a treat for the children.
Technology Tidbit: It’s a new school year, so it’s a great time to
review your family’s plan for safe technology
usage. As always, we encourage you to monitor your child’s screen time, limit
and balance it with lots of outside time and quiet reading times. Remembering
reading aloud to your child and with your child is one of the very best things
you can do to help your child academically.
Our first Lower School Chapel is Tuesday,
Sept. 11th from 12:05-12:25pm. Parents are always welcome to come
join us in the Clark Fine Arts Center as we worship together and hear a
wonderful message.
Did you know??? Friends of Ronald
McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia donated aluminum can “pull tabs”
(over 16 million tabs!!) raising nearly $10,000 for local families in need last
year. Our FPD students helped, and we want to continue this year. Please send
pull tabs in a Ziploc bag to the office or to Mrs.Bryant in the Science Lab.
Thanks so much!

Nature Trail Walk
What a beautiful walk in the woods last week! We used our senses to explore God's creation. We heard birds singing. We smelled honeysuckle and grass. We felt moss, ferns, palm branches, and rocks. We saw deer tracks, animals homes, berries, and fallen trees. We counted the rings on a tree stump. The tree was over 60 years old! Thank you, God, for Your creation and for a school where we can celebrate it!
