8 Ways to Raise a Reader

8 ways to raise a readerI came across this article today and thought it had some excellent points for parents of preschool children.  After snack each day, students are allowed to select books to "read" quietly until everyone is finished and it is time to move on to the next activity.  Many children find this difficult.  At school we model the proper way to hold a book and turn the pages.  We also model how to look carefully at the pictures, ask ourselves questions, and look for letters we may know.

At home I would encourage you to set aside 5 minutes each day and have your child "read" books quietly.  This will help to improve focus, observation skills, and independence.

Also, find time to read to your child each day.  Ask questions, make observations, and discuss the story afterward.  All of these will improve comprehension and help to create a life long learner and reader.

Thankful to be able to partner with you to educate and equip your children to change the world for God's glory!
